Web Disk (also known as WebDAV) is a drag-and-drop interface included with your cPanel which allows you to access your website’s files as if it were a local drive on your computer. These results can be accomplished using FTP via Windows Explorer which makes it easy for the end user. You can use this to alter web files or utilize cloud storage.
Access Web Disk
- Login to cPanel and click the Web Disk icon.
- Scroll down and click the Access Web Disk button.
- Choose your operating system (the one you use on your personal computer) and click Go.
- A file to create the Web Disk will download to your computer and instructions will appear in cPanel to walk you through setting up the web disk on the selected OS.
Once the web disk is set up, you will be able to drag and drop files from your local drive to your website.
Windows Explorer Setup
You will first need the FTP account login information. You can connect with the primary cPanel username and password or an FTP account you have created in cPanel. Either way you should have the following information about the FTP account:
Server: Your primary domain or the IP of your server. ie www.domain.com or ftp.domain.com
Username: user@yourdomain.com
Password: The password that was created for the user you are using.
Now that you have the account information you need to pull up Windows Explorer. You can go to Start > Computer or use the shortcut Windows Key + E to start Windows Explorer.
Type ftp://username@yourdomain.com into the top address bar. Replace username with your cpanel username and example.com with your primary domain name. That should connect you and cause it to prompt you for a password.
Note: If you just enter ftp://yourdomain.com, you will be connected anonymously. You cannot upload or download when you connect anonymously, so be sure to use ftp://username@yourdomain.com so you are prompted to input a password.
You now have an open FTP connection to the cloud server. You can drag and drop files to and from this window and your computer to upload/download files.
